Carve Your Own Path
The Elisabet Ney Museum is excited to offer a brand new STEAM program, Breaking the Mold: Mobile Hands-On Art Crates, for the 2025-2026 school year!
Through the Breaking the Mold Program, participating teachers will have the opportunity to bring engaging, interdisciplinary lessons into their classrooms while reinforcing Elisabet Ney's advocacy for women in the arts and inspiring the next generation of young creators. Each art crate was designed by a local contemporary female artist by integrating key themes from Ney's legacy and life as a neoclassical sculptor. This program offers AISD students unique, hands-on learning experiences that foster critical thinking and creativity.
Teachers can choose from one of the three Breaking the Mold Art Crates:
Women on The Frontier: Elisabet Ney's Artistic Perspective on Texas History - This crate was designed by Beili Liu and explores the many facets of Texas History. Students will gain a new perspective on social studies through activities that combine mathematical skills and engineering.
Life as a Naturalist: Elisabet Ney's Perspective on Art and Science through Nature - This crate was designed by Virginia L. Montgomery and focuses on the connection between Ney's views as a naturalist and her work as an artist. These lessons will encourage students to learn through scientific observations and creative inquiry.
Art through Portraiture: Science and Technology in the 19th Century - This crate was designed by Tammie Rubin and examines Ney's work as a sculptor. These lessons will give students the opportunity to learn about the scientific and mathematical elements that informed Ney's execution of portrait statues.
