Austin Jazz Workshop

We encourage students to participate in school music programs including band, orchestra, and choir

Each performance will feature a professional jazz quintet bringing a jazz artists music to life in an exciting, age-appropriate format. Before each performance assembly, a classroom clinician will visit participating campuses to prepare students for the performance.

The program centers on the life and work of Roy Hargrove, a Texas-born trumpet virtuoso whose artistry bridged traditional and contemporary jazz forms. By exploring Hargrove’s career, students are introduced to a wide spectrum of jazz styles, including jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, gospel, classic bebop, Latin jazz, and hip-hop-influenced jazz.
