Diversity Band

The Diversity Band offers workshops for students which culminate in performances with both students and band members. Through these workshops, students will be exposed to world cultures and drumming history, fostering global friendships and enhancing mental health.

The Diversity Band, an initiative created through Austin Pune Sister Cities International, aims to foster diversity and multicultural integration by utilizing music as a powerful tool. Through the medium of drumming, the Diversity Band also endeavors to enhance the overall well-being and mental health of individuals hailing from diverse backgrounds. As a dynamic and vibrant group, the band's work transcends boundaries, fostering unity and education in the realm of music and beyond.

The Diversity Band is an initiative was established to promote cultural diversity and heritage and education. By using different drums from cultures around the world, students experience the evidence backed benefits of drumming on their mental health and wellbeing. In the past, the Diversity Band has conducted these workshops with students at LBJ High School, kids at the Partnership for Children, and students at Westridge Middle School. In these workshops, the Diversity Band worked in collaboration with both students, teachers, and school staff members.

Workshops include:
1) Single session introductory workshops of one hour with a group of students.
2) Multiple sessions occurring over six-weeks and culminating in a dynamic musical performance with both students and band members.

In both workshops, students will learn:
- Team building (though various activities like building drums, fun games, singing, and playing together)
- Discipline and commitment (Learning, attending practices)
- Exposure to creativity (music composition, dance steps, and formations)
- Help reduce anxiety and bring harmony
- Recognition (Final performances) and confidence building
- Cultural awareness and respect
