Exploring the art of our time through inquiry and experimentation

The Contemporary Austin offers dynamic programming all about the art of our time. Whether on-site, virtual, or during a field trip, all participants will discuss contemporary art through open-ended inquiry and also create works of art using a range of materials and processes. We work with all ages.

Visiting an art museum with your family or classroom? Join in the fun as students from Austin's Lee Lewis Campbell Elementary Media and Performing Arts Institute visit The Contemporary Austin and share their best tips on how to look, explore, and learn! Shot on location at The Contemporary Austin's Laguna Gloria sculpture park and the Jones Center on Congress Avenue downtown galleries. With special thanks to Revelator, Austin, TX, and Lee Lewis Campbell Media and Performing Arts Institute staff and students.

K-12 Museum Experiences:

Spend time exploring and investigating contemporary art during a field trip to Laguna Gloria, a fourteen-acre sculpture park on Lake Austin, or the Jones Center, a three-story museum located just blocks from the Texas State Capitol on Congress Avenue.

Museum Experiences include guided or self-guided tours of current indoor exhibitions at the Jones Center or outdoor sculptures at Laguna Gloria, led by Education staff. For groups seeking a more hands-on experience, an Art Lab activity can be added at Laguna Gloria. This art-making session takes place in an indoor or outdoor studio and is designed to complement the guided tour.
