Move Your Tale & Excused Absence Comedy
Improv for the Stage and Beyond

MYT & ExAb's Improv programs are hands-on, collaborative theatre providing one-of-a-kind performing arts experiences that resonate beyond the stage. Classes, Residencies, and Live Performances on campus and at ColdTowne Theater. Listen. Say yes. Find the funny together.
Why Improv?
Improv comedy is unique within the performing arts in its simplicity, adaptability and range of possibilities. The skills used to create hilarious characters and discoveries can also lead to beautiful and unexpected moments on stage and in the classroom. Happily, these skills are also readily transferred to real life situations, where the willingness to offer a “Yes, and” can build resilience, confidence and connection. Whether your group is interested in Improv as performance or in its benefits as applied to real world situations, we promise an engaging, supportive, and laughter-filled experience.
And…
Improv is easily adapted to age group, physical/other accommodations, and skill level.
No load-in required. All we need are a couple chairs and a place to perform or teach.
The framework of classes and shows comes from us, but the content comes from audiences and class members. The result is always a uniquely shared experience that gives voice to that groups ideas and experiences.
Programs
Live Performances
On-campus Shows and Field Trips to ColdTowne Theater. MYT's cast of professional Improvisers weaves audience suggestions and volunteer performers into an original and hilarious 20 to 50-minute show. Show structure and content based on the age range and size of each audience.
Improv Essentials: Classes and Workshops
Bring the power of “yes, and” into your classroom and provide students with a hands-on introduction to Improv tools and techniques that entertain while building resilience, communication & collaboration skills, and more. 25 to 50-minute sessions. One-off visits or recurringClass structure and content are based on the age range and size of each class.
From Seat to Stage Workshops
Our favorite way to share Improv, MYT's From Seat to Stage Workshops begin with an Improv performance followed by a brief explanation of our work. Students are then invited to take part in a series of low-pressure Improv exercises & lessons to illustrate and practice basic concepts. Finally, students are guided through a low-pressure performance of their own. 40 to 90 minutes. Structure and content based on the age range and size of each class.
Artist Residencies
A series of recurring classes and/or performances that address curricular and/or campus culture goals. Teaching artists meet with your campus representative to develop a course of study that connects the tools and practices of Improv to your program’s needs.
Campus Community Events
Live Improv Shows or workshops are a great shared experience, providing opportunities to connect through laughter. Content and length determined by age range and size of participants.
Educator Workshops
Improv builds trust, flexibility, and resilience while providing easily applied techniques to help us reframe and overcome obstacles. Learn how to apply these lessons in the classrooms and hallways of your school as you laugh with colleagues and collaborators.
