The VORTEX creates and presents new, innovative theatre—world premiere plays, operas, musicals, and devised collaborations. The VORTEX fosters educational programming, including our award-winning Summer Youth Theatre. We offer on-campus as well as virtual performances.

Reggie Rap’s Room. Full Curriculum. Grades 2-12.

Offering a full curriculum of social and emotional development.

Reggie Rap’s Room is a full-curriculum story and experience that educates and highlights the importance of mental health, social & emotional development, self-care practices, and EQ exercises through story, music, art and various Black & Brown hair care techniques.

Rap Unzel a play by Jeremy Rashad Brown. Directed by India Wilmott.

2 live in-school performances on one day. Grades K-12.

Reginald “RAP” Unzel III is a young man with big hair and bigger dreams of musical stardom... IF ONLY he can get out of his room. Rap Unzel disrupts traditional fairy tales, pushing back against hyper-masculine and stoic representations of Black men. We present BIPOC artists as role models and exhibits inclusive content and create experiences for parents, students, and teachers.

Skill Building through Theatre

6-part workshop. Middle and High School.

Professional Theatre Artists offer physically engaging workshops in Acting, Movement, Writing, Voice, and Improvisation skills to improve our human skills, translating into all aspects of life and academics. STEM plus the Arts=STEAM.

Technical Theatre

4-part workshop. Middle and High School.

Hands on crafting. Practical skills in design, construction, and creation of scenic, lighting, costumes, and props.

Stage Management

2-part workshop. Middle and High School.

Workshops include leadership, organization, communication, nurturing, protection. Stage Managers ensure that theatrical performances run smoothly by tending practical and technical aspects of rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances and supporting cast and crew in excellence and safety.

Mask-making

2-part workshop. Middle and High School.

Hands on crafting. Each student creates and decorates a performance mask, and then in the 2nd workshop, creates a character with that mask/face. Integrates visual arts, movement, and creative performance.
